According to the Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures is planning to rebooting 1997 sci-fi film Starship Troopers.

The cult Paul Verhoeven directed classic is the latest in the list of his film – with 1987’s RoboCop and 1990’s Total Recall – to get an update. Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who wrote the Baywatch movie and the remake of Friday the 13th, have been tasked with adapting the original Robert A. Heinlein novel.

The studio is said to be going back to the original novel that followed soldier Johnny Rico while he battles alien bugs. Verhoeven’s 1997 film was more of a satire of militarism than the book and stared Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards and Neil Patrick Harris.

What a more a more faithful adaption of the Heinlein novel will look like is still unclear.
