Lucasfilm announced that Donald Glover will play the young smuggler in the 2018 film.
Glover is known for his roles on Community and Atlanta and his music career under the alias Childish Gambino.
He will join Alden Ehrenreich – cast as Han Solo – in a film that will explore the early lives of the iconic characters long before they meet again in Cloud City.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. “These are big shoes to fill and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations.”
The still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars film is set for release in 2018.
