Lauryn Hill Launches “Diaspora Calling” Music Festival

By Robyn Collins

Former Fugees singer Lauryn Hill has just launched the inaugural Diaspora Calling! Music Festival, a three-day series of music and art events celebrating the African Diaspora.

Lauryn Hill DJ’d her Diaspora Calling kick off at a private art gallery at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre.

Diaspora Calling is a curation of works “intended to celebrate the rich tapestry of artists from the African Diaspora while also illumining persistent and irrepressible themes,” Hill explained to Billboard. “Even if we work independently, we are a resounding collective voice, both reconciling and embracing our relationship to history, our origins, our future and to ourselves.”

Hill curated the gallery with the assistance of MoCADA, Nader Haitian Art, and The Haiti Cultural Exchange.

The gallery will be open to the public on Thursday and Friday from 12-4pm,
