This Interactive Map Shows You The Filming Locations For All Movies Shot In SF Since 2013

Does it seem like there has been a ton of movies shot in San Francisco lately? That’s not a feeling — that’s the truth.

Between better known flicks like Ant-ManSan Andreas, and Planet of the Apes, and lesser-known indies like Diary of a Teenage Girl, we might just have a little neo-film mecca under our feet here.

A site called Metrocosm, particularly impressed by the influx of films heading to the Bay, created an interactive map of the city where you can toggle around and see which scenes were filmed in which locations around the 7×7. The map’s creators seems to have drawn information directly from scripts or production notes, because some scene descriptions are particularly detailed. For example, there’s one for Americana at the Laguna Honda hospital, which reads, “Main character moves through hospital hallway after the death of his sister. He meets an old friend to discuss whats next.”

In addition, they’ve also listed out how many film permits have been awarded to production crews in city neighborhoods, so we can get a better idea about which parts of the city are most commonly represented. Topping that list is the most obvious one: the Financial District, which has more than double the permits of any other neighborhoods in San Francisco.
