Disney announced large expansions at both Disneyland and Disney World today at their 2015 D23 Expo.
The expansions include attractions and features integrating stories and chararcters from Star Wars, Avatar, Toy Story, and Marvel.
The Star Wars expansion includes the interactive Star Wars Launch Bay , seasonal Star Wars themed events, and Star Tours – The Adventures Continue that will launch at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland park in California to include a new adventure that is themed around the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film.
“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” said Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
They also announced the reimagining of Space Mountain to Hyperspace Mountain, where guests will join an X-wing Starfighter battle.
Most exciting of all the Star Wars integration is a promised ride where you get to pilot the Millennium Falcon.
“[T]ake the controls of one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon, on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle.”
Avatar is coming to Florida’s Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the form of Pandora – The World of AVATAR and
AVATAR Flight of Passage — both designed to immerse the guest in the world of James Cameron’s blockbuster.
Lastly, the all-new 11-acre Toy Story Land will open in Orlando and Hong Kong Disneyland will open the Iron Man Experience in 2016.
