Noah and Allie are making a return to the screen. The two protagonist characters of the hit film The Notebook, originally played by Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, will be revived for a new show on the CW, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Based on the 1996 Nicholas Sparks book of the same name, the plot follows a World War II-era couple as they navigate love and loss. The new CW series, while it stars our central characters from the film, will take place after World War II.
According to the site, the new series “will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina.”
“The Notebook is a very, very well-received book and motion picture. It is going to be set after World War II,” CW President Mark Pedowitz said during a TCA panel August 11. “At this point the pilot’s not done — I do not believe we are going to see the older couple.”
“Things change, we are now at the very beginning of the development stage.”
