We love you Harry, but there are some things we hold too sacred to humour your English jokes. Of those things, some of the most important are our football teams.
We make fun of them all the time. In the Bay Area, we bicker back and forth about the Niners and the Raiders. We’re die-hard. When they play each other, it’s not a duel, it’s a war, and when it’s over, we continue to talk trash to each other until the next time we face off. It’s just the way we are, and it’s (mostly) just in good fun.
Sometimes the teams are total messes (like, well, now), but they’re our messes, and we love them.
So, when we saw Harry Styles throw some seemingly random shade at the Oakland Raiders this week while playing a show at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, we were not amused. It hits a nerve, whether you’re wearing red & gold or black & silver.
Luckily, the Raiders were on it, and issued the perfect retort to the dumbest insult a musician could make to the Bay Area.
Again, Harry, we fancy you. We do. But there’s one thing you need to take away from this faux pas: don’t mess with Oakland.
