‘Minions’ Terrorizes Weekend Box Office Ranking

By Alyssa Pereira

Minions might be known to be followers, but in this weekend’s box office ranking, they ruled.

Their namesake film, which is the third in the Despicable Me franchise, opened to an incredible $115.2 million in U.S. profits. Worldwide it took in nearly $400 million, making it the second biggest animated opening of all time, after Shrek 3.

One crown it did claim, however, was the top spot in the ranking for the highest-grossing animated 3-D film of all time.

But not all box office flicks had a good week.

On the other end of the spectrum, The Gallows took in a mere $10 million, and Self/Less disappointed with only $5.4 million. Luckily for star Ryan Reynolds, as Box Office Mojo points out, the new trailer for Deadpool premiered at Comic-Con, which should save his career from taking a serious hit.
