The Fast Foodie: 7-Eleven’s Bacon-Wrapped Big Bite Hot Dog

As I was walking by my local 7-Eleven I saw the giant banner for the new Bacon-Wrapped Big Bite Hot Dog and I stopped in my tracks. It was Fourth Of July Weekend and this was my Patriotic duty.

What could be more American than mystery meat in tube form wrapped in bacon and served on-demand between the tins of chewin’ tobacco and the Lottery tickets?

I told myself, “‘Merica! Bacon-Wrapped Big Bite you will be mine and you are (probably) safer than illegal fireworks!”

I slunk out of 7-Eleven with my Bacon-Wrapped Big Bite avoiding eye contact with patrons and fearing I might run into someone I know to eat it in the privacy of my own home. Yes, it might have been more ‘Merica if I would have eaten it in the parking lot with my American Flag t-shirt and my pet bald eagle but I felt this dog required some quiet contemplation.

I opened the hot dog shaped box and saw the Bacon-Wrapped Big Bite and frankly (yes, I went there) it looked a lot more sad and weird on it’s own than it did rolling under a heat lamp a few minutes earlier. I skipped the extra topping so my Bacon-Wrapped Big Bite experience would be pure and dove in. First bite was not too bad. Other than the really poor quality bun, the hot dog and the bacon tasted pretty good. The bacon added a little smokiness and a little crunch to the 7-Eleven big bite flavor profile.

Overall, I say to skip the 7-Eleven version and stick to the ones you can find all being grilled on unauthorized hibachis around big cities once sporting events end and bars start to close.

That being said, I give the Bacon-Wrapped Big Bite 2 and 1/2 Coronaries.

Rating: 2 1/2 Coronaries

The nutritional facts were not available on 7-Eleven’s official site so I grabbed the regular big bite facts and the approximate facts on a slice of bacon as posted on* in order to get an estimate of the nutritional impact. Also, please note that the estimate does not include optional toppings.
