It hasn’t really been all that long since Grateful Dead ticket prices were being priced in the thousands, and yet, now you can buy a ticket for not much more than the cost of an IMAX movie ticket.
Earlier this year, the band plus Phish’s Trey Anastasio and a few other special talents announced they would play a few exclusive “Fare Thee Well” shows at Chicago’s Soldier Field (which is historic for being the last venue Jerry Garcia played at before his fatal 1995 heart attack). Tickets initially went on sale for between $59.50 to $199.50 and eventually sold out after only a few minutes. After that, tickets skyrocketed to the tens of thousands. As CNN reports, one person even bought a single ticket for the final Chicago show $13,000.
However, soon thereafter admitted they had also booked a few more one-off dates — “warm-up shows” at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Tickets were expected to similarly rise, but as it turned out, the market turned a little cold. The trend did not extended to Santa Clara. As of this writing, you can buy your own ticket to the Sunday, June 28 show for as little as $15.
Grateful Dead fans, this maybe your lucky day after all. If you’d like to head to the shows, you can buy your tickets here at Stub Hub.
