Boston University Journalism Professor Lou Ureneck writes about a little known piece of history, the brave actions of an American in 1922 who saves thousand of lives.

The Great Fire: One American’s Mission to Rescue Victims of the 20th Century’s First Genocide tells the story of Smyrna, the richest city of the Mediterranean, the great fire, the Armenian Genocide and Asa Jennings, a Methodist minister from New York who evacuated 350-thousand refugees from the shores of Smyrna in Turkey after the great fire.
