Disney To Remake San Francisco-Set Classic Film ‘Sister Act’

By Alyssa Pereira

News has been flying around about the many, many remakes that Disney has been busy working on, but the latest film to be confirmed hits a little bit closer to home: the 1992 classic starring Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith, Sister Act.

The remake, confirmed today by The Wrap, already has a team of writers, Legally Blonde‘s Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith, attached to pen the script, and a producer, Cinderella‘s Alli Shearmur on board as well.

As you may recall, in the original film, Goldberg played a lounge singer who was forced into witness protection when her mobster boyfriend (played by Harvey Keitel) threatens her life. She winds up in a convent in San Francisco with Mother Superior (Smith), where she faces a whole new set of challenges.

No word on whether or not the film will take place in San Francisco again, but based on how many films the area has been churning out as of late, we’re betting there’s a pretty good chance.
