Every dog gets his day, and clearly, today belongs to Brutus.

The Rottweiler was dealt “a very short hand” when he was young, after he caught frostbite on his paws when an owner left him out in the cold overnight.

The owner then tried to “save” Brutus by attempting an amateur amputation.

Obviously it failed (since that’s never something anyone should attempt), so he was brought to the University of Colorado for help.

A woman named Laura Aquilina, a pet rescuer from Canyon City, Colorado decided to foster the pup and help him get a new life.

Despite his rough start, Brutus is a happy pup.

Aquilina created a GoFundMe page to help Brutus get on his (new) feet, and it surpassed its goal quickly. The surgery was tough β€” the doctors removed his bone fragments, dew claws, and two toes β€” butΒ it was successful.

Pretty soon, Brutus was being fitted for his new legs.

Pretty soon, he started walking! It was awkward at first:

But pretty soon, he got the hang of it.

🌊 "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore." πŸ™Œ Truth 1⃣: Working with a dog with 4 prosthetic legs is hard. There are many days my patience is tried and I wonder what we are doing. But then I look back and I see how far we have come. This is a new technology. Brutus is only the second dog in the WORLD to have 4 prosthetic limbs. The technology may not yet be perfect, but one day it may be. We want to be part of the process to help make that happen; and we want to be part of the process of helping to make this technology more readily available to pets in need. Truth 2⃣: Animals don't feel sorry for themselves. They just "DO." They are the truest expression of innate feeling and they will never lie. Brutus is a happy dog and quite content to be living life, despite the fact he doesn't have any feet. 🐢 To me, this picture is inspirational because it shows how far Brutus has come and it reminds me of how many people believed in and supported him. It's been a pretty amazing journey so far and I can't wait to see what else the future holds for this inspirational pup. πŸ’œ #Rottweiler #bionicpaws #Amputee #Prosthetics #disABLEDpets

And as of today, it looks likeΒ Aquilina has decided to give him a new permanent home and adopt him. Gotta love happy endings.
