Last week, Noise Pop headliner Ben Gibbard broke his hand.
However, rather than canceling his opening night show at the renovated Swedish American Music Hall last minute, Gibbard opted for another route: tapping Sun Kil Moon’s Mark Kozelek to accompany him on guitar while he sang.
By his own admission, Gibbard was “so honored” to be joined by Kozelek, a now iconic (and infamous) performer, and Kozelek added he was glad to be there as well.
Kozelek learned the ten or so songs he performed “in about twelve hours,” as Gibbard mentioned, before reminiscing about the multiple Noise Pop appearances he has had over the festival’s fifteen year history.
Check out a snippet of Kozelek and Gibbard playing “Such Great Heights” below, and Death Cab For Cutie’s newest single, “No Room in Frame”.
