San Francisco Ballet’s Yuan Yuan Tan

Yuan Yuan Tan started ballet training at the age of eleven at the Shanghai Dancing School in China.

She joined San Francisco Ballet as a soloist in 1995 and was promoted to principal dancer in 1997.

In our interview, Yuan Yuan talked about the different ballets in the 2015 season and an unfortunate situation with a recent order of toe shoes…the custom-made shoes were not quite right…and they take 8 months to make…

Will she be dancing with bare feet? She’ll probably figure something out. When she came in for the interview, she was wearing a super-cool pair of Tod’s…maybe she could dance the role of Juliet, in Romeo and Juliet, wearing Tod’s?
