Everyone knows San Francisco abounds with open-minded residents. We’re just a saucy bunch.
So naturally, we’re not surprised that the city took top honors on the ranked list for the Kinkiest Cities in America. We were, however, surprised we didn’t take the top position.
Kink.com, a porn company based in San Francisco, wanted to know just how kinky American cities were, so they set up a four-pronged approach to measure how cities related to each other in terms of their interest in fetish, BDSM, and polyamory.
To get their numbers, they looked at active users of kink social network Fetlife, the percentage of populations in each city that self-identifies as “kinky” (not sure where they got this information), the number of “kink-aware professionals“, and finally, the amount of porn purchases by each city, according to Kink.com.
The top spot went to—believe it or not—Portland, Oregon. The city had the highest percentage of people to log into fetish site Fetlife, with an incredible 4% of the population, equating to an astonishing 24,378 people (bow-chicka-wow-wow). They also cite a study published by The Portland Mercury, where 42% of residents identified as something other than monogamous.
Looks like Portland deserves the title—let your freak flags fly, guys.
