The Nine Best TV Shows (And One Podcast!) To Binge On For Rainy Days

By Alyssa Pereira

Just because it’s too rainy to go outside doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun. As far as we’re concerned, good television and rainy days pretty much go hand-in-hand.

To get you through this nasty storm, we put together a few links to some of the best binge-ready shows on the internet.

All you have to do is cozy up, grab some cocoa (or Irish coffee, if that’s more your thing) and get to watching.

Note: Some of these require subscriptions.

Show: Sons of Anarchy
Where to Watch: Hulu, FXX for most current season
Plot: A motorcycle gang led by the adorable Charlie Hunnam in an imaginary small town between Stockton and Lodi try to balance family, honor, and loyalty with their money-making endeavors. They are mostly not successful, but the show is!

Show: House of Cards
Where to Watch: Netlix
Plot: A conniving, plotting politician (Kevin Spacey) will stop at nothing to gain power in pursuit of the highest possible office, even if it means manipulation, lying, and cold-blooded murder.

Show: American Horror Story
Where to Watch: Hulu, FXX for most current season
Plot: Though the cast is the same every season, everything else changes with each revolution. Recently, creator Ryan Murphy (whom you may know from “Glee” or “Nip/Tuck”) revealed that all the seasons are somehow intertwined, so put on your sleuth cap when you’re finished!

Show: Breaking Bad
Where to Watch: Hulu, FXX for most current season
Plot: Walter White (Bryan Cranston) is just a local chem teacher in the Southwest who is suddenly forced to reckon with his mortality and lack of revenue when he gets diagnosed with a terminal cancer. Luckily, he ends up winning the lottery! Just kidding, he turns to making blue meth and it all gets really dark after that.

Show: The Leftovers
Where to Watch: HBO Go
Plot: The world is rocked by a mysterious happening when 2% of the world’s population suddenly vanishes. Kevin (Justin Theroux) and his family are a firsthand example of how families attempt to deal with grief, anger, confusion, and relief while trying to solve the suspense behind “the happening.”

Show: Scandal
Where to Watch: Hulu
Plot: Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is an expert at managing everyone’s unsolvable problems except for her own—namely, her ongoing affair with the President.

Show: Game of Thrones
Where to Watch: HBO Go
Plot: Based on the wildly successful book series, noble houses wage war on each other in an attempt to seize power. Dragons, witches, magic, kinda dead guys and weird animals also want to get in on the fight. Nobody really wins but you because this show is awesome.

Show: The League
Where to Watch: Hulu, FXX for the most recent season
Plot: Even if you’re not a football fan, you’ll appreciate the inside jokes from a sitcom starring a bunch of comics arguing about family, work, weird kinda friends/eskimo brothers, sex, and of course, football. SHIVAKAMINI SOMAKANDARKRAM!

Show: Orange is the New Black
Where to Watch: Netflix
Plot: In this adaptation of a true story, Piper (Taylor Schilling) was long ago mixed up in a drug smuggling ring with her girlfriend, but those days are long gone and now she’s on track to marry her fiance. That is, until the law catches up to her and she’s sent to jail…alongside her ex.

Podcast: Serial
Where to Listen: Here, on their official website
Plot: In 1999, high school student Adnan Syed was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his high school sweetheart. Only one problem: his lawyer botched the case, and there’s a lot of evidence to suggest he’s innocent. In this podcast, writer Sarah Koenig attempts to figure out the truth to the story. The kicker? This very much true story is unfolding almost in real time, and Koenig herself has admitted she doesn’t know how it will all end.
