The majority of the songs from The Hunger Games soundtracks, totaling three records so far, are originals, but that doesn’t mean a few reimaginings of older tracks can’t seep through the cracks.

Case in point: Bright Eyes’ “Ladder Song,” covered by soundtrack curator Lorde for next week’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

The song, which leaked onto the Internet last night (Nov. 13), finds the singer stripping down the original to render it even more sparse than it already was.

Piano is replaced by organ-esque keyboards, though Lorde stays fairly true to Conor Oberst vocally, sliding delicately along the melodies, magnified only toward the end by another vocal track.
