Nearly 30 years since Back to the Future, a hoverboard might be in the actual future.
A Los Gatos couple named Jill and Greg Henderson have developed a working hoverboard.
And this one actually works, as in, a reporter has tried it and can confirm that it legitimately hovers. Specifically, it is like “standing on a giant air hockey puck hovering three quarters of an inch above the ground.”
However, the Hendo Hoverboard is not quite yet ready for sales. Its issues with steering and its restriction to “non-ferrous metal surfaces” mean it will take a bit more effort to get the board to work on a commercial level.
In the meantime, the company has launched a Kickstarter with a fundraising goal of $250,000 with a deadline of December 15, with the first round of Hendo hoverboards available on October 21.
The bad news? They’ll go for around $10,000 a piece, and their battery only lasts for 7 minutes.
