Our girl Christina Perri was at the (newly remodeled and gorgeous!) Masonic in San Francisco last night, and she was AMAZING.
It was an evening with Christina Perri – no opening band – so she walked right onstage just after 7:30pm , and to pretty much everyone’s surprise, she went right into “Jar of Hearts” first – she normally closes with that one! It’s the track that started it all for her, with So You Think You Can Dance and with Alice being the first station – anywhere – to play her on the radio. It’s never sounded better than it did last night.
Her voice is beyond perfect – how does she hit those notes?? And her lyrics… “I Believe” in particular kinda destroys me. She ends that song by splitting the crowd into three different parts, and having each section sing a part (“This is not the end of me, this is the beginning…” “Hold on…” “I am still alive”… ) I’m such a sucker for crowd’s voices like that. I’m a wreck every damn time she does it.
That was part of the incredibly cool vibe of the show, too – the crowd. My friend Kate kept commenting on how diverse the crowd was… friends out together, Moms and Dads with their kids, no defined “type.” Christina’s message is so universal, that makes sense… and I loved loved loved seeing the younger kids totally soaking in her positive messages.
I put the pictures of us (pre and post-cry) on my Facebook page.
Christina ended the show with a shout-out to Alice before the last track, and so of course I cried again. It happens….
