For apparently no other reason than ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Bill Murray came to the Bay Area and drove a cab driver from Oakland to Sausalito last week.
Murray told a crowd at the Toronto Film Festival last Friday that earlier in the week he had gotten into a cab and spoke with the driver about his hobbies (what a guy, that Bill Murray). Apparently, the driver loved to play saxophone. although he didn’t have much time to practice.
“I drive 14 hours a day,” he said.
Murray wouldn’t let that fly. “Well, where’s your sax?” he asked.
“In the trunk.”
Then because Bill Murray is Bill Murray, he decided, “Pull over and get in the back, I know how to drive a car.”
But the night didn’t stop there. Here’s Murray’s account of what happened after:
Not only did he play all the way to Sausalito, which is a long way, we stopped and got barbecue. He (wound up) playing in what some would call a sketchy, weird place in Oakland at 2:15 in the morning. I was like, ‘Relax, man, you’ve got the (expletive) horn! We’re cool!’ And it was great and it made for a beautiful night.
At least this time, EVERYONE will believe that sax-playing driver.
