The Fast Foodie: Taco Bell Quesarito

Before it was even released to the public the Taco Bell Quesarito was making us salivate. One of those internet famous “secret menu” items come to life at my gold standard of fast food joints is like a holiday for me. I admittedly feel a bit bad that it took six entire days for me to make the Quesarito mine.

I discussed it with my friends Larry and Moe, and we settled on the newer Taco Bell across town — mainly for the cleanliness of their booths — and headed into fast food history.

I’m a Taco Bell lover. Some are totally against “the Bell” but for me it has been one of the few culinary constants in my diet since I was a kid (Please Note: The Fast Foodie is ageless).

Side note: Every time I have been in a Taco Bell I think that I’ve have heard the Madonna song “Lucky Star.” Taco Bell may be the only reason I have heard that song since MTV went full on Snooki and ditched the old lace laden diva.

Back to the Quesarito: The Quesarito is simply a burrito with a quesadilla as the wrap. The specifics from Taco Bell are “seasoned beef, premium Latin rice, Chipotle sauce, reduced-fat sour cream, and then wrapped up in a grilled quesadilla loaded with melted cheeses.” It is a hybrid of sorts but I am a fan of Taco Bell’s other hybrid fare like the Mexican Pizza and the Doritos Tacos. (Try the Mexican Pizza with beans instead of meat – you will thank The Fast Foodie for it.)

Our Quesaritos arrived and I instantly cut mine in half to see how closely it resembled the photo from Taco Bell’s advertising. It looked surprisingly close — a Fast Foodie first!

The taste? Oh … thank the fast food gods … the Quesarito is awesome — cheesy, meaty goodness. The addition of the “premium Latin rice” really makes the meal by cutting down on what could have been a greasy mess. Some of the latest specialty items at many fast food places seem to either go way to far with the flavor spectrum or just fad chase but the Quesarito is a great blend of simple item that we all love.

That being said, I give the Quesarito 4 and 1/2 Coronaries.
