Science writer Murray carpenter became fascinated with caffeine when he was in college and drinking coffee daily with his friends. Most of us feel better, more energized and focused, on caffeine. Carpenter wrote a paper on the topic and over the years has written about caffeine for a number of national and international publications.
He’s now written a book titled Caffeinated: How Our Daily Habit Helps, Hurts, and Hooks Us.
He talks with me about the history of coffee and tea, how Monsanto got its start supplying caffeine to Coca Cola, sports drinks, the benefits of caffeine, the drawbacks, and what happens if we stop taking our daily dose.
