Meals on Wheels of San Francisco serves thousands of clients every day. The organization has paid staff (cooks and drivers) as well as a dedicated team of volunteers. More than 20 percent of San Franciscans are over the age of 60. The majority of clients served by Meals on Wheels of San Francisco live below the poverty line.
Meals on Wheels of San Francisco Executive Director Ashley McCumber explains how and what they serve their homebound seniors every day of the year. He also talks about the importance of the volunteers who visit the seniors on a regular basis to make sure they’re safe and stay connected with others.
Nancy Oakes, chef-owner of Boulevard and Prospect and chef chair (once again!) of the Star Chefs and Vintners Gala to benefit Meals on Wheels of San Francisco, talks about the importance of giving back to the local community. Many Bay Area chefs, pastry chefs, and vintners will be donating their time and goods at the annual event.
The live auction features some of the finest wines, and one-of-a-kind travel opportunities. Many of the chefs donate exclusive dining experiences. After the auction, people pledge to Fund-a-Route, further helping Meals on Wheels continue their service.Comments
