Daniel James Brown writes nonfiction books…his latest is “The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.”
There were nine young men in the boat from the University of Washington… the families of those rowers were all eager to share diaries, letters, newspaper clippings with the author…and sit down for interviews with him.
The nine members of the team were up against a number of elite rowing teams before they could get to the Olympics…the Ivy League Schools and the champions at UC Berkeley. The University of Washington squad was a rag=tag collection of tall, skinny kids, the sons of farmers, loggers and other blue collar works. Joe, the central person in the story, was abandoned by his family during the depression…
This story sounds like it should be made into a movie…and it is on the way to the big screen…read the book and then you’ll be ready to enjoy the movie when it comes out in the next few years!Comments
