(CBS News) The Bluths are back, the Bluths are back!
After seven sad, Bluthless years, our favorite dysfunctional family is back on TV — and we couldn’t be more excited.
Netflix announced Thursday that the upcoming season of “Arrested Development” will officially debut on May 26 at 12:01 am PT, which marks the cult comedy’s return to TV after a three-season run on Fox from 2003 to 2006.
The streaming service will air all 15 episodes simultaneously a la “House of Cards” — plus they’re giving us a bonus episode. Netflix originally announced in January that the new season would consist of 14 installments (for which they made a joke compilation about their “huge mistake” of 14 vs. 15).
According to Entertainment Weekly, series creator Mitchell Hurwitz has said that this “anthology” of episodes is designed to serve as a prequel to a long-rumored movie that he and the reunited cast (which includes Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera, David Cross, Jessica Walter, Tony Hale, Jeffrey Tambor and Alia Shawkat) are still hoping to make. Each installment will focus on a particular character, with other Bluths weaving their way in and out of each episode.
In addition to the core cast, guest stars on tap for the revival include Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Liza Minnelli (aka Lucille 2), Conan O’Brien, John Slattery (“Mad Men”), Chris Diamantopoulos (“24”), Isla Fisher (“Wedding Crashers”) and Ben Stiller.
We’re turning blue with anticipation.
