(CBS NEWS) Shain Gandee, one of the stars of MTV’s reality series “Buckwild,” was found dead in West Virginia on Monday. He was 21.
The Kanawha County Commissioner Kent Carper confirmed to MTV News that Gandee’s body was discovered in a vehicle along with two others in Sissonville. Police have identified a second body as his uncle, David Gandee, while the third victim has not been identified.
“We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement. “We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly.”
Gandee and his 48-year-old uncle were reported missing earlier Monday. Authorities said the two were last seen last seen around 3 a.m. Sunday at a bar, according to the Associated Press. Family members said the men had planned on riding their all-terrain vehicles but didn’t say where. They reported the men missing after they couldn’t get in contact with them Sunday.
MTV announced in February that it had ordered a second season of “Buckwild,” which focuses on Gandee and eight other friends living in West Virginia.
