Patricia Bracewell‘s debut novel is “Shadow on the Crown, ” the story of Emma of Normandy. This is historical fiction…many of the characters are real people from history…many of the events actually happened. Patricia fills in the unknown parts to make this history come alive!

In 1002, 15-year-old Emma, daughter of the Duke of Normandy, is sent across the Narrow Sea to marry Aethelred, the King of England. He’s about 35 years old and had 11 children from his first marriage. Her step-kids resented her…her husband was cold…she had to figure out how to navigate the court and her loveless marriage.

Living in a castle sounds like great fun…but castles back then were more like estates, which still sounds cool, but living was a bit rough…you had to follow the food around…so the royal family moved from place to place…

Things were challenging for the young queen…and to make the situation a bit more intriguing, she had the hots for another man…

You can meet Patricia and hear her read from her book at Book Passage in Corte Madera on February 7th at 7pm and at Diesel Book Store on February 8th at 7pm.
