As the days are getting shorter and darkness sets in earlier some of us might experience what’s called SAD (seasonal affective disorder). It’s not easy dealing with the “blues” so here are a few style tips to overcome your inner sourpuss.

 Dress Up for Yourself

You might feel depressed but that doesn’t mean you should cover up in your biggest sweater with chips crumbs all over it. Even in the darkest of all moods try to be stylish, and embrace your mood. If you feel like dressing all in black pull out that LBD, and wear it around town. Being noticed by others as you walk around will help you feel better, and less lonely.

 Stylish Shelter Lovin’

You’re not alone when it comes to feeling all caged in. Take a trip to your local shelter and help another sad soul out by taking him/her for a little walk. Grab a fun coat and hat, pick up Snoopy and head out to your local doggie park.  Seeing Snoopy  play with others will warm your heart just a little, and who knows…you might even meet some human buddies at the park.

 Retail Therapy

When depressed, I believe in seeing my retail therapist. Don’t depress your wallet by shopping at expensive stores and instead venture into the land of second hand stores. San Francisco is a resale playground when it comes to variety so check out the numerous stores in the Haight near Golden Gate Park. You can also venture onto Valencia or Mission Street in the Mission District,  Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights or Sacramento Street in Presidio Heights.


Beauty Sleep

When all fails and you absolutely don’t feel like leaving the house you can always pretty up at home until the blues are gone. Take a nice shower, moisturize your skin right after, drink a cup of tea, and cuddle into your sheets. Get fashionably inspired by watching Gossip Girl, Sex and the City or Mad Men via Netflix, and make sure you get your 8 hours of beauty sleep right after.

 And lastly always remember: This too shall pass!
