Loma Prieta: 22 Years Later

[photogallerylink id=99947 align=left]Can you believe it has been 22 years?  I simply can’t believe it was that long ago – but this report that Dan Rather did from Oakland the next morning is just as scary now as it was then.

I can still barely watch the parts about 880 and the Marina.

  1. Adorable Jim. AJ says:

I was on one of Alamedas first in engine companies to the collapsed Cypress Structure. For the next few days we worked in shifts to do what we could. I just remember it was so surreal. Cars were crushed beyond recognition. As time passed it turned into a recovery mission. It was a devastating sight that effected my co workers and I for many years. Lots of people lost their loved ones. Somebody’s parents somebody’s wife or husband somebody’s kids. Somebody’s friends. I still think about it every time I drive by the area.
